Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) Before and After Photographs

These before and after photographs of a surgical hairline lowering and hairline reshaping by Dr. Mittermiller demonstrate some of the key priorities that one often hopes to accomplish with forehead reduction surgery. This procedure is often used for FFS (Facial Feminization Surgery).

This amazing patient previously had hair transplants to round and lower her hairline. She was interested in further reducing the size of her forehead and reshaping the hairline through surgical means.

In the photographs, the quality of the scar can be seen as well as the degree of reduction and the change in shape of the hairline.

The amount of lowering was based on the ideal height of the hairline and was modified from most hairline lowering procedures due to the fact that she previously underwent hair transplantation. In the preoperative image, one can see that the patient was using makeup at the upper forehead to serve as an illusion to make the hairline appear lower than it was. The amount of lowering can be seen in the second set of images. In this set, the size of the red markings are the same. The location of the new hairline Is seen to roughly match where the patient was previously performing camouflage makeup. 

The third set of images shows the change in the shape of the hairline. This can be achieved through a variety of surgical maneuvers.

The amount of hairline reduction and hairline reshaping is highly variable on each patient’s starting conditions. It is important to review realistic expectations during initial consultations and preoperative appointments.
